National Relay

One of Practice Plan’s major fundraising activities for 2008 is our National Relay. The idea is to pass a baton, hand-crafted in Tanzania, between as many customers as possible. Starting off with Bridge2Aid in Tanzania, we aim to follow the baton around the UK - with fundraising activities taking place at each practice along the way.

The baton will be brought over with the Bridge2Aid team in May for the BDA conference and will be passed from practice to practice until November 2008, when the baton will go back to Tanzania with the Practice Plan work team. A team of three Practice Plan staff will then run with the baton from Mwanza to the Bukumbi Care Centre (a distance of about 21 miles) to complete the relay.

3 Peaks Challenge

This summer, we have entered a team of five into Bridge2Aid’s “3 Peaks Challenge”. Our team will climb three of Yorkshire’s highest mountains – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – ideally in under 12 hours! We will compete against other Bridge2Aid supporters, such as A-Dec and FMC. The challenge is on to see who can finish first!

Bridge2Aid are also holding the 3 Peaks in June, July and September. If you would like to enter a team, please email jennie@bridge2aid.org for a registration pack.

Freddie Mercury Tribute Charity Ball

On Friday 16th May 2008, local businesses in the Oswestry area and Practice Plan staff are getting together to help kickstart the fundraising in style. The Ball will be held at The Lion Quays Hotel, near Oswestry, and tickets are being sold at £38 per person (£350 for a table of 10). As well as raising money, it is guaranteed to be a fun night out; including a charity auction as well as the nights all-important Freddie Mercury Tribute!

Chester Half Marathon

Practice Plan Bukumbi Work Team

Our biggest and most exciting challenge this year is to raise funds and organise a team of 16 people to go to Tanzania to help work on one of the Bridge2Aid projects. The team will comprise staff, customers and suppliers.

Since it was opened in 1980s by the Government to house the “unsightly” people of Mwanza, the Bukumbi Care Centre has fallen into a state of disrepair. Through the efforts of Bridge2Aid, a refurbishment programme has been undertaken to restore the Bukumbi Care Centre. The majority of this work is being carried out by teams of volunteers from the UK.
