Supporting our practices with prioritising mental health awareness

It’s been reported in a recent survey carried out on 1629 dental professionals that close to two thirds of the profession feels burnt out. 63% of respondents said they were frequently exhausted and 50% felt pressured to take on extra work or put in extra hours. Not surprisingly, the situation is taking its toll on wellbeing, with 18% expressing concerns about their mental health. Find out more about the results by reading the article here.

With the above in mind, at Practice Plan, we’re delighted to be running a series of mental health awareness courses to support dental practices in strengthening their workplace wellbeing. Thanks to a generous wellbeing grant from the Wesleyan Foundation, we’ve been able to fund six expert-led courses designed to help practice teams better understand, manage, and support mental health in their day-to-day roles.

The sessions are delivered by Andy Elwood, a leading mental health and wellbeing expert, who brings a wealth of experience in helping teams build resilience and develop practical strategies for supporting mental health. These sessions provide practical insights and actionable techniques to help dental teams create a more open and supportive environment, reducing stigma and promoting positive mental health in the workplace.

We’ve delivered some mental health awareness courses with Andy previously and the feedback has been fantastic. We had some lovely feedback from one of our practices, Olive Tree Dental, Nivert Tamraz, Practice Manager and Head of Marketing, who attended one of the courses back in February, revealed to us that she is applying what she learnt into her practice and how it even inspired her to write her own blog for both her team and patients.

“Thanks Amy for recommending the Mental Health First Aid course, it was super insightful. It even inspired me to write a blog and article for my team and our patients too!”

Exclusive webinar for Practice Plan clients

To further support our clients, we are also hosting a dedicated webinar that’s exclusive for Practice Plan clients on 14th May. This session will offer additional insights and practical strategies for recognising and addressing mental health challenges in dental practices. By providing these valuable learning opportunities, we aim to help practices prioritise the wellbeing of their people. We believe that fostering a mentally healthy working environment not only benefits individual team members but also contributes to stronger, more resilient practices overall. We’re proud to be making a positive impact in this vital area, reinforcing our commitment to supporting both the business and personal wellbeing of our clients.
